A real-life Deckard Cain!

Who is Deckard Cain? For those who don’t know, Deckard Cain is a character in the Diablo series of PC games.  He is a Horadrim mage who assists the central character in the game by way of the telling of legends and identification of magic items.

And so when reports of a real-life Deckard Cain being found in India popped into my RSS reader and me being a huge fan of the Diablo series, I had to go and see what it was all about. Watch the video below to find out more about the real-life Cain.

One thing bothers me about this, though.  In the news report it is stated that police found an unidentified staff among Cain’s possessions… but if he really was Cain, it would surely have already been identified!? Or maybe the police didn’t have 100gp to pay Cain to identify it for them?

Or is this some sort of wierd Blizzard promotion for the upcoming Diablo III? Its seems none of the above is true.. if Google Translate is to be believed, the actual story behind the video is of the elderly gentleman living without food or water for 70 years … which could, in fact, be worse than him claiming to be Deckard Cain in the first place!

Helicopter Trip

A couple of months ago, I was given a voucher for a helicopter tour operated by Lothian Helicopters.  Yesterday Jacqui & myself used the voucher to take a short trip in a Bell Longranger helicopter and get a few photos.

It was an enjoyable experience even though the trip itself was maybe a little on the short side as  we were only in the air around 10 minutes. Sadly, the skies were a wee bit hazy, so the photos I took haven’t come out as I would have liked despite some touching up in Photoshop.  We weren’t allowed to open the windows due to the threat of losing cameras and the risk of crosswinds so the pictures we took had to be taken through the helicopter’s windows.

Here’s a wee selection of snaps from the trip. Click on an image to see a larger version.
